Birthday Celebrations

Many students enjoy celebrating their birthday in class by sending something in to share with everyone. Our classroom policy is that students may not send in food and/or beverage items to share with the class. There are several reasons for this policy:

1) The Amphitheater School District and the Arizona Department of Education has implemented guidelines that support health and wellness by eliminating foods with a high sugar content

2) Many students have food allergies; bringing treats into the classroom can put them at risk for a reaction

3) Serving food items often takes time out of our busy schedule and has a tendency to be distracting for many students

If you would like your child to bring in something for the class in honor of his/her birthday, here are a few ideas:

- bookmarks

- pencils/erasers

- stickers

- a book for the classroom library

- a game for rainy days/choice time

- a cd/cassette of soothing music for quiet times

Thank you for your understanding and support of this classroom policy!
