Monday- March 2 Class work: Today we checked the grammar worksheet in class. Everyone that had the work finished when they came to class got a 100% on the work. Then we finished the work that we were working on on Friday for the Arachne story.

March 3 Class work:Today we began our most recent bellwork sentences. They are about Orpheus. Today's sentence gave us the opportunity to discuss the use and punctuation of appositives in writing. Then we got into groups to read and discuss the myth "Orpheus." The goal was to help each person in our group to understand the story. Finally, people finished up their work for "Arachne."

Vocabulary: astro= star (astronaut, astronomy)

March 4 Class work: Today student completed the bellwork. Then students worked on completing a story map for the myth "Orpheus." The purpose was understanding of the myth.

Vocabulary: auto= self (autobiography)

March 5 Class work:Today students completed the bellwork. We discussed using compound sentences to make sixth grade writing more sophisticated. A compound sentence is two or more independent clauses joined with a semicolon or with a comma and a conjunction. Next, students completed the story map for "Orpheus."

Vocabulary: bi= two (bilingual, biped, bicycle)

Homework: Metacognitive sheet for R/S reading. Study for the vocabulary test and reread the Orpheus story to review for the comprehension test tomorrow.
March 6 Class work:vocabulary check- You must know all 40 words, stems, and roots. Comprehension test for "Orpheus."

March 9 Class work:Today we completed the bellwork entitled "Orpheus." Students rewrote the bellwork as a paragraph and handed it in. We also evaluated the Active Reading sheets from last week. Then each student wrote a reading goal for this week. Mrs. Nicholas exlained that we will need to bring a biography to class by Friday of this week. We will begin to read biographies next quarter. Book orders are due on Friday, March 13.

March 10 Class work: Today we reviewed the vocabulary prefix and discussed various uses of the prefix in the English language. Next we discussed two of the most commonly missed test questions on the Orpheus comprehension quiz. We learned to eliminate irrelevant answers and then learned how to identify key words that could help focus the identification of the correct answer. Next, Mrs. Nicholas introduced us to the myth "The Gorgon's Head." We began to read it in our team talk group.

Vocabulary: co=together, with (cooperate, coordinate)

Homework: Orpheus: Additional Work
This work is for anyone that did not score an 80% or higher on the comprehension quiz for "Orpheus." This work is due on Thursday.
March 11 Class work:Today we discussed how to more successfully complete the myth maps. Students need to work at identifying character traits for story characters. This can be done by looking at their actions and words.For example: we decided that Orpheus was very determined. Our evidence was that he went to the underworld to get her. Then we discussed how to identify theme and support ideas with examples and illustrations from the text. Finally we conitnued reading "The Gorgon's Head."

March 27 Class work:Today we discussed the AIMS writing test. Students asked questions and Mrs. Nicholas answered.

March 30 Class work:Periods two and three did not meet today because of the AIMS writing exam.
Periods six and seven took the vocabulary quiz and then spent the remainder of the period reading the biography and taking notes. The notes check will be taken tomorrow since we didn't have a chance to read on Friday.

Homework: No active reading sheet today or tomorrow. Periods two and three need to prepare for the vocabulary quiz tomorrow.
