Class work and homework

May
May 1 Class work: Students evaluated a sample connection together using the rubric. There is more understanding and agreement about how to grade the connections now. Then we discussed the metaphor in the power point. Next we learned about how some adjectives can also be pronouns. Finally we went over the rules for forming verb tenses. We used our new resource page to practice. Mrs. Nicholas read part of a poem to perdiod two but was not able to finish it.

Homework:A connection is due from R/S reading. Grammar 4.6 is due on Monday.
May 4 Class work:Students recorded the Language Usage MAP results on their charts and graphs. Then we graded Grammar 4.6. Finally, Mrs. Nicholas introduced a novel that we will be reading in class entitled The Door in the Wall by Marguerite de Angeli. We discussed the use of figurative language in the title. The author used allusion in the title as she alluded to another familiar text when naming the book.

May 5 Class work:Today we finished reading the first chapter of the book The Door in the Wall. There were many new words in the text and we discussed how people used different pronouns back in the Middle Ages. We learned that this story took place during the time of Edward the III. Then we began to complete a map of the United Kingdom.

Homework:Finish the map tonight. It is due tomorrow. Four connections are due tomorrow.
May 6 Class work:We reviewed the components of the map and discussed the setting of the book. We graded the connections for the last week using the connection rubric. We read chapter two in groups.
