November 3 Social Studies:
Class Work for November 3-Today we completed bellwork. Then we went to the computer to research the standards for Egypt. All students should have six sets of notes.
Homework:Finish the research for the Egypt standards.

Language Arts:
Class Work:Today we corrected the bellwork sentence. Then we went to the computer lab. Group 1 word processed their paragraph and group 2 read the work of others to get ideas.

Homework:
Make sure you have a completed paragraph that follows the specifications on the assignment sheet.
November 4 Social Studies:
Class work for November 4-Today we completed bellwork. Then we identified our new vocabulary for this week. We did a matching game with our vocabulary.

Homework: Make sure that you have research completed on six of the standards. You can use the links on Mrs. Nicholas's website.

Language Arts: Today we corrected the bellwork sentence. Then we worked on two vocabulary words for class. Then we received the grammar sheet for tonight.

Homework: Grammar 2.3 is due tomorrow.
November 5 Social Studies:
Class work for November 5-Today we completed bellwork. We were in the computer lab today to turn some of our research into a paragraph.

Homework: Make sure that you have research completed on six of the standards. You can use the links on Mrs. Nicholas's website.

Language Arts: Today we corrected the bellwork sentence. Next we headed to the computer lab. Group one worked on revising their paragraph and group two worked on word processing their paragraph.

Homework: Grammar 2.3 will be graded tomorrow.
November 6 Social Studies:
Class work for November 6-Today we completed bellwork. We predicted for a story entitled "The Boy Who Knew His Fate." Then we began to read the Egyptian folktale.

Homework: Make sure that you have research completed on six of the standards. You can use the links on Mrs. Nicholas's website.

Language Arts: Today we wrote the bellwork sentences as a paragraph.Then we handed in Grammar 2.3. Finally, we did a "chalk talk" discussion about the benefits of predicting before reading a text. This was an interesting way for everyone to talk about a topic.

Homework: Parent interview is due on Monday.
November 9 Social Studies:
Class work for November 9-Today we were able to go to the library to complete the paragraph about Egypt. This paragraph will be assessed using the rubric on the documents page of this website. Do not throw away any of the research you did. This will be the evidence of the thinking and work that you did to prepare for the paragraph.

Homework: Complete the paragraph and have it ready to turn in tomorrow.

Language Arts: Today we were in the 507 computer lab to finish the paragraph about predicting. The paragraph will be turned in tomorrow with the graphic organizer and the rough draft.We turned in the parent interview today.

Homework: Finish your paragraph. We will have no more time in class dedicated to completing this work. It must be complete for class on Tuesday.
November 12 Social Studies:
Class work for November 12-Today we recorded the new vocabulary word in our SBoLs and recorded the class work and homework in our agendas. Then Mrs. Nicholas checked with everybody about the paragraph that was due on Tuesday. Next we started taking notes on a video about Egypt. We are taking notes about Egyptian architecture.

Homework: No new homework.

Language Arts: Today we corrected the bellwork sentence. Next Mrs. Nicholas modeled for us the process of writing a paragraph about predicting. She used the graphic organizer that we used for our paragraph. She modeled her writing and her thinking for us. The purpose was to give us an example of some of the ideas we should consider while we are writing.

Homework: No new homework. All students must have a completed book by Monday, November 16.
November 13 Social Studies:
Class work for November 13-Today we added a new word to our SBoL. We recorded our class work and homework. Then we took notes on what our responsibilities are when we have been absent. Mrs. Nicholas decided that several students had been confused about how they should take care of their work when they return to school. The notes will be used for a comprehension check/quiz next week. Students are responsible for keeping their agenda, and completing class work and homework when they are absent.

Homework: No new homework.

Language Arts: Today we corrected the bellwork sentence and recorded the class work and homework. The three sentences for this week must be written as a paragraph. This paragraph and the bellwork sentences are due next Tuesday. Next we completed the simulation that we started on Tuesday. We took notes as a group and Mrs. Nicholas took a grade for collaboration. We turned in our group notes as evidence of our thinking.

Homework: Parent interview. All students must have a completed book by Monday, November 16.
November 16 Social Studies:
Class work for November 16-Today we added a new word to our SBoL (criterion). We recorded our class work and homework. Next we took a comprehension check on our notes about being responsible when we are absent. Then we participated in an activity called "Pass and Read." We were reading paragraphs from other authors in our class.

Homework: No new homework.

Language Arts: Today we corrected the bellwork sentence and recorded the class work and homework. Next we all looked at our progress reports and Mrs. Nicholas explained how to read the document. We then graphed our current grade on a Grade Record Sheet. We will be keeping track of our grades each week now. Finally, we revisited the ideas about the benefits of predicting before reading text. Parent interviews and Active Reading sheets were due today. Today was the due date for our first completed book.

Homework: Bellwork paragraph is due tomorrow. These are the sentences from last week about the Nile River.
November 17 Social Studies:
Class work for November 17-Today we added a new word to our SBoL (fugitive). We recorded our class work and homework. Next we worked on word choice in our paragraph about Egypt. Then we finished taking notes on the video.

Homework: No new homework.

Language Arts: Today we corrected the bellwork sentence and recorded the class work and homework. Then we worked on revising our paragraph about predicting. We found the verbs and verb phrases in our paragraph about predicting. We worked on making the nouns and verbs stronger by making them more specific. Then we observed the beginning of each of our sentences. We attempted to add variety to the sentence beginnings.

Homework: Bellwork paragraph from last week was due today. These are the sentences from last week about the Nile River.
November 18 Social Studies:
Class work for November 18-Today we added a new word to our SBoL. We recorded the class work and homework and then went to the computer lab to complete our final copy of the paragraph on Egypt. We had to follow seven written directions to complete the paragraph.

Homework: Finish your paragraph if you haven't turned it in.

Language Arts: Today we corrected the bellwork sentence and recorded the class work and homework. Then Mrs. Nicholas had us do some practice with prepositional phrases, verb phrases, and infinitives. Then we got our grammar worksheet for this week and began to work on it in class.

Homework: Grammar 2.4 is due tomorrow.
November 19 Social Studies:
Class work for November 19-Today we added a new word to our SBoL (current). Mrs. Nicholas explained a writing assignment to us. We are writing a creation story about our paragraph. we are pretending to be our paragraph telling the story about how we came into existence. The story is for us to share with our future children(future paragraphs) so they can know about our(the paragraph's) life. The purpose is to understand the writing process.

Homework: Work on your story for fifteen minutes only.

Language Arts: Today we corrected the bellwork sentence and recorded the class work and homework. We went to the computer lab to apply our final changes to the paragraph about predicting before reading.

Homework: Grammar 2.4 is due tomorrow.
November 20 Social Studies:
Class work for November 20-Today we added a new word to our SBoL (persona). We recorded the class work and homework and discussed the two bellwrok vocabulary words ( describe and government). Mrs. Nicholas is grading our paragraph in two different ways. One for writing and one for productivity and responsibility. She shared our grade today for productivity and responsibility. Then we continued to work on our persona story about the creation of our paragraph.
Homework:Finish your story for Monday.

Language Arts
Classwork: Today we completed the last sentence in the bellwork series. The sentences are due next Tuesday as a paragraph. Then we graded the grammar worksheet (2.4). Next Mrs. Nicholas checked to see who still needed to complete their paragraph about predicting. This work will be collected on Monday. All work must be finished by Monday.

Homework: Complete the paragraph concerning predicting about text before reading. Rewrite the bellwork sentences correctly as a paragraph. This is due on Tuesday..Parent interview due on Monday.
