Curriculum
For the first semester, this class will focus on our early beginnings up to the Civil War. This will be a quick review of American History since many students have only had a brief introduction to American History/Government (if any) in their elementary years based upon current Social Studies standards. For the remainder of the school year, we will focus on the Road to the Civil War through the Great Depression. The following represents a brief outline of the various topics we will be covering this year in 7th grade Social Studies.
- Geography & Maps
- Prehistoric Indian Cultures - War with Mexico
- Road to the Civil War, the Civil War, & Reconstruction
- The Vanishing Frontier & the Rise of Industry
- Into the 20th Century, Overseas Expansion, & WWI
- The Jazz Age/Great Depression

Textbook |
Several years ago(January 2006), we were fortunate enough to receive new Social Studies textbooks. This comprehensive textbook is entitled The American Journey (McGraw Hill/Glencoe) and is very informative in a variety of ways. Each student will be assigned a textbook to take home and keep at home...we have enough for a "class set." Students are to take care of the textbooks & return them at the end of the school year (or upon early withdrawal or transfer from Cross). You may view the textbook on-line by clicking on the link to the right (2005-2006 edition/2005 copyright date). |
