Welcome to 8th grade social studies and reading with Mr. Vaughan!
This year we will learn about American government, from the national to local level. This will include a study of the Constitution of the United States of America. We will also (in the spring) study American history from about 1941 to the present. We will learn about geography and economics as they relate to history and politics in the course of our studies.

About Mr. Vaughan
Mr. Vaughan is originally from Massachusetts, and came to Arizona in 1977. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama Production and has also earned a Master's degree in Teaching and Teacher Education (with an emphasis on history) from the University of Arizona. He began teaching in 1990. He has taught both middle and high school at Hopi Jr./Sr. H.S. near Keams Canyon, AZ, and has been teaching middle school in the Amphitheater School District since 1999.
Mr. Vaughan is married, and his wife holds a Ph.D in American Indian Studies from the University of Arizona. He enjoys jewelry making, exploring Arizona's "back country," and traveling in Mexico. He takes great interest in continuing his education in the areas of history and affairs of state.
He considers himself very fortunate to be able to work with the Amphitheater Middle School community.
