What is up in October
Halloween Spooky House
October will again be packed with exciting learning for your child.

In math we will soon be learning about elapsed time. This is a challenge for many of the children. It is also where we focus heavily on mastering our multiplication facts.

We will continue to write with the writing process as our guide. Also, the focus to make improvements on our ability to write letters and paragraphs remains. As always we work daily on DOL and grammar instruction.

Reading instruction will become more differiented so we can focus on your child's needs. They will be reading novels as well as short stories. Further, they will have some non-fiction reading. As the children become ready I will be putting them into literature circles so they can discuss books with their peers. The literature circle gives them guidelines as to the things they can discuss about a book.

In science we will learn about animal adaptations. In social studies we will focus on the three regions in Arizona. We will be making a playdough map of our state. I will let you know when I need the homemade playdough made with Cream of Tartar. Thanks for the support.

This month also brings us the fall parade. On October 30st we will all come in costume for our annual fall parade. Remember costumes cannot be bloody or overly scary. Guns, spears, or weapons of any kind are not permitted. If you are unsure of the appropriateness of your costume, please ask before the 30st.

Please make sure your child is getting adequate rest. Many of the children, especially on Mondays, are coming in very tired. Thanks!

Again, it is a pleasure teaching your children. They are fantastic and are working very hard to achieve success.
