We are in the swing of things and enjoying every minute of it.

The biggest thing that comes with September is Parent Teacher Conference. I have sent home with your child a conference time. Please confirm if the scheduled time works for you. If not, suggest a few alternatives, and I will get back with you. The conferences will be September 15-18 (Tuesday-Friday) Due to those conferences, we will have early dismissal (12:40) Tuesday through Friday of that week. I plan to stay late on Thursday for those of you that can't make a conference at any other time. Please return your confirmation today!

We continue to work on improving our grammar and punctuation. This month, we will work to put exciting words in our writing pieces as well as the correct format for letters and paragraphs. In reading we are working on what we should be thinking when we are reading.

We are doing very well in math. The focus is on attending to the details and making sure we have read and understand the problem correctly. Keep working on those math facts. We need those mutiplication facts by Halloween.

In health, since the beginning of the school year, we studied about our character traits and how all of them make up our personality. Also, we looked at what we need to be physically and emotionally healthy. We focused on what we could do if one of our needs is not being met. We also studied nutrition, sleep, and exercise. The focus was on the benefits if we do those things right and the risks if we don't. We also read a book dealing with the topic of bullying.

By the middle of September we will have begun teaching the Second Step lessons. The first lessons are about empathy. This will tie in nicely with the bullying read aloud we discussed in August.

We are still doing the MAP tests. I will share the results with you at conference time.

During the month of September our District is having a sock drive. All month we will be collecting packages of new socks and underwear. They can be any size that a school-aged student might wear. They go to the Amphi Clothing Bank to assist families in our Amphi family. I hope you will encourage your child to do some extra duties around the house to earn the money for the purchase of a package of socks or underwear. Feel free to bring them in anytime in the month of September. I will make sure they get turned into the District. Thanks for helping show your child what it means to care for others.

Again, we want you to know it is a pleasure serving your family this year. We are enjoying ourselves. Thank you for sending us such wonderful children.
