Since Langauge Arts has much writing and reading, many writing assignments will take longer to grade. I understand that many parents are anxious to know what their child earned, but know that I do my best to get them all graded with comments and inputed in the grading system.
Student work is ** Bell Work—daily practice in spelling, capitalization, punctuation or language usage. ** Grammar & Usage—Learn the rules of grammar and punctuation through weekly lessons and practice. ** Vocabulary & Spelling ** Writing Assignments ** Tests & Quizzes—Students are assessed after material is taught. ** Presentation Skills—An important part of language arts is developing public speaking skills.
What about grades? Students earn their grades. The quarter grade will come from points awarded from a combination of tests, quizzes, projects, class participation, in and out of class assignments, and group work. The more points a student earns, the higher the grade will be.
Grading scale A = 90-100 Excellent B = 80-89 Very Good C = 70-79 Average D = 60-69 Unsatisfactory F = <59 Failing
For all assignments ~ No name, no grade. ~ Write first and last names, date, and class period at the top-right hand corner. ~ Use pencil, black ink pen, or dark blue ink pen. Please no markers or gel pens. ~ No small or overly fancy print. ~ If I can’t read it, I can’t grade it, and it may equal a zero. ~ No make-up work will be given for assignments never turned in! ** CHEATING and PLAGIARISM (copying someone else’s work and claiming it as your own) will result in the failure of the assignment.
Assignment/Homework Policy Assignments will be posted on the chalk board or white board and the class website. If an assignment is late: ~ The student has five (5) school days to turn in complete work. ~ When turning in the assignment, write “LATE” at the top of your assignment. ~ Place assignment in the black box labeled “Late” on it. ~ After five school days, the assignment will not be accepted and earns a zero.
When a student is absent and misses work such as notes, handouts, etc. : ~ It’s the student’s responsibility to obtain any class notes and handouts. ~ The student must ask a classmate. ~ Most of the time a “While you were out” form will be completed to help the student. ~ The student must get any handouts from the red file crate. ~ The student has five (5) school days to turn in the assignment. ~ When submitting the assignment, write “ABSENT” at the top. ~ Place it in the “Late” black box. ~ After five school days, the assignment will not be accepted and earns a zero.
Extra credit will be periodically offered and is not available upon request. It may be built into some assignments or awarded to students who have truly gone above and beyond the assignment. It is meant to reward students who have done extra.
Quizzes and tests: ~ The student has five school days to make up the quiz or test. ~ Teacher and student will set a time and date for what works best and record this on a sheet near Ms. Arthur’s desk.
Finishing an assignment early * Remain quiet so that other students may continue to work undisturbed. * Depending on Ms. Arthur’s instructions, turn in your work or keep it in your binder. * Tidy up around your area. * Remain seated until Ms. Arthur dismisses you. |
