Reading Response Journal |
|
| Specific to This Assignment |
RRJs will begin Monday, 4/13/09. First one for fourth quarter is due Monday, 4/20/09.
Each day an RRJ is late, 10% of assignment grade will be deducted. After four days, an RRJ will not be accepted and earns zero points. |
| BOOKS |
You will choose your own fictional book to read that is 85 pages or more. Ms. Arthur must approve it. You are to have a book in your possession at all times. If it turns out you don’t like the book, quickly choose another one, and stick with it. |
| READING |
We gain so much by reading; we improve our vocabulary, recognize diverse voices, see different writing styles, increase our knowledge on various topics, relate to experiences, and much more! You will be reading for meaning. You become a fluent reader when you analyze, argue, interpret, and connect the reading to your experiences and understanding. Therefore, as part of your language arts homework, you are expected to read for a minimum of 30 minutes four nights a week. You may not count assigned literature readings as part of your RRJ entries, unless directed by Ms. Arthur. |
| LOG ENTRIES |
The RRJs require that you be an active reader. You will respond to a section of the reading rather than summarize the story. You are required to make a minimum of three entries per week.
All entries should include the following information: DateTitle of book; Author: From page__________ to _____________ Time ____________ to _____________ (include a.m. & p.m.) Parent Signature
If you complete a book, you may create a poster recommendation of the book to hang in the room. This poster may substitute for one week’s RRJs. See Ms. Arthur for specific guidelines. |
