About Mrs. Franklin
|
Mrs. Franklin is a native Californian graduating from LaCanada High School in 1969. She did her undergraduate studies at Lindenwood University in St. Charles Mo. receiving a BS in Physical Education and Health. Mrs. Franklin received her Masters of Education,(Counseling and Psychotherapy) at The University of Hartford, where she was a Division I volleyball coach for 13 years. She has been teaching physical education for 30 yrs. with 8 of those years being at Wilson K-8 school.
This year Mrs. Franklin is back as a full time middle school PE teacher. From 2002-2006 she was the program champion liason to the University of Arizona for the National grant program TAAG. With the help of this grant she has collaborated with Mr. Romero in developing a curriculum that is progressive, relative to today's students and fits the needs of Wilson students' active lifestyle. This year's students will be able to play golf, use the updated and expanded fitness room, rollerblade, and experience activities offered in health clubs. The 6th grade will participate in a new curriculum called "Fitness for life". This program is designed to help the student to become physically active and fit. To be knowledgeable about and value the health benefits of physical activity and to develop skills that can be used for a lifetime.
After taking 2 years off from coaching High school Mrs Franklin returns to Ironwoodridge HS volleyball team. She is remains active as a member of USA volleyball and is a player/coach in State, National and International Senior competitions and was an All American recipient in 2005. Also in 2005 Mrs. Franklin was inducted into the University of Hartford's Athletic Hall of Fame for her contributions to their volleyball program. This May her team competed at The Volleyball Nationals in Mineapolis and won the Gold medal beating Brazil in the finals. She was named to the All-American team and voted MVP of the tournament in her age group.
On a personal note Mrs. Franklin is married has 3 children and is a co-owner of a shoe store with her sister in Tucson.
