Dear English 9 Parents & Guardians,

Today, the English 9 classes started reading Of Mice and Men. Please read the following language disclaimer and discuss it with your child.

***Language Disclaimer: Of Mice and Men contains profanity and uses labels that are not socially acceptable today. It is important to remember that the story takes place during the Great Depression and what is not acceptable now WAS acceptable during that time. Of course that is not to say it was EVER right! When reading aloud, you have the option to omit words if you wish. Please DO NOT use the words out of context inside or outside the classroom! Severe consequences will be imposed on those using inappropriate language and/or racial slurs. Please see me if you have questions. IF you determine the book to be too offensive, I will give you an alternate reading assignment with a note from your parent/guardian. The alternate reading will be of the same difficulty and length. THANKS!***

Thank You,

Mrs. Gabriel
