Homework is given Monday-Thursday, but very rarely on Fridays. (I know your family needs weekend time!) Students may have additional assignments to complete at home that were not finished in class, and these are also written down in the assignment books. It is your child’s responsibility to make sure homework is completed and turned in on time. Additionally, it is his/her responsibility to bring you anything that needs a parent signature, including the Assignment Book. Homework is due on the day specified in the assignment book. (Due dates are always given.)
Assignments need to be neatly written or typed. They should be carefully looked over before turning them in. A heading is written in the upper right hand corner of the paper. It includes the following:
Name/Number Date Subject/Assignment/Page Assignments must be completed by the due date. If homework comes in one day late the grade drops 10%; two days late the grade is reduced by 50%; thereafter it is a zero. Papers with no names are subject to a 10% grade reduction (if claimed), or thrown away at the week’s end (if left unclaimed).
If your child is absent he/she will have the opportunity to make up the work. For every day absent he/she will have one day to make up the work, plus an additional day. For example, if your child is absent two days, he/she will have the two days plus one day to hand in his/her work. This would be a total of three days. If there is a problem in completing the missing work due to illness we can work out the details and set goals together.
Please know that I encourage my students to come in before school Monday-Thursday at 7:30 if they need help with an assignment. The only times our classroom is not open before school are on Fridays, and those rare mornings I have a meeting before school.
