Welcome Back!!
|
Hi! Welcome back everyone. This is my 29th year at Harelson and I am spoiled. I love Harelson. Let me share why... * Only 55% of the nation's elementary schools have a fulltime art teacher * For the schools that have art, the average time spent for Art instruction is 43 minutes/week * 49% of the Elementary art teachers taught in 2 or more schools * Of the regular elementary public schools that offered visual arts, only 56% had a dedicated room with special equipment; 3% used a gym and 33% taught in the regular classroom during the academic year.
In 2005 the Amphi voters said "Yes" to an override that put in place a fulltime Art teacher in every elementary school , teaching at least 50 minutes/week. We have 60 minutes! THANK YOU
I have always had my own Art room at Harelson, although at this point noone else would want it. I love my room. It's old and colorful .. like me. THANK YOU
All the kids at Harelson come to me once a week, including Kindergarten. There are 4 classes this year and I would love any help you can offer in these classes! THANK YOU
Because of the generosity of the parents every year and their donation of tax credit $$ to the Fine Art Program,I have 2 ceramic kilns, a slabroller, extruder and the ability to do some projects that many of my fellow art teachers only dream about! THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT
In the federal No Child Left Behind Act, the Arts share equal billing with reading, science and other disciplines as "core academic subjects", which can contribute to improved student learning outcomes. I'm glad for that.
John F. Kennedy said " The life of the Arts, far from being a distraction in the life of a nation, is very close to the center of a nation's purpose and a test of the quality of a nation's civilization."
Thank you Harelson Parents. This is a great place to call Home.
