SEI Reading Class, Level II
Our primary goal in all SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) classes is language acquisition. Our students have a language other than English as their first language. Level II students have acquired a fair amount of English vocabulary and are using the simple present and the simple past tenses. By reading short works of prose and poetry, fiction and non-fiction, students develop skills in reading and speaking. Specific reading strategies that we practice include: activating prior knowledge and background information, using context clues, asking ourselves questions, making predictions, and re-reading. Our choice of reading materials allows students to increase their knowledge of American history and culture.

SEI Language Arts, Level III
Our primary goal in all SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) classes is language acquisition. Our students have a language other than English as their first language. Level III students have acquired intermediate level English language skills. They have a large English vocabulary and use both simple and compound verb tenses. We develop skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and presentation. Our curriculum materials include the High Point Literature Series, Write Source 2000, and various supplemental materials, both prose and poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Our choice of reading materials allows students to increase their knowledge of American culture.
