Notes For The Week Of December 1-5, 2008:

I hope that each and everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday! It is hard to believe that we only have three weeks left until Winter Break!

We are currently reading the book "If You Had Lived In Colonial Times" by Ann McGovern. This book is about the life of the Pilgrims and the Colonies that were established in the New World. The book focuses on how the Colonies were formed, laws/punishements, Colonial Homes and Schools, and Colonial Jobs. The children will compare and contrast a Colonial Community with our Modern Communities. This is an exciting unit of study!

Our Winter Pancake Breakfast/Craft Fair will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2008. More information will be available at the end of the week.

Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to mention Tax Credit Donations. Please consider making a donation to our classroom for the purpose of fieldtrips. You may also make a general Tax Credit Donation to Painted Sky. You do get your money back, dollar for dollar.

Book Projects for the month of December are optional. Your child will receive extra credit if they choose to complete the project. All projects are due on Thursday, December 18, 2008. Please click on the Monthly Book Projects tab to obtain the information needed for the book project.

Questions To Spark At Home Discussions For The Week Of December 1-5, 2008 Include:
1. Name some ways that a Colonial Community was different than our own Community.
2. What is a paragraph? How many sentences are in a paragraph?

4. In Everyday Math, what is the Partial Sums Algorithm? Add 24 + 68 using the Partial Sums Algorithm.
