CANYON DEL ORO TEAM SPORTS

The purpose of this document is to give you an understanding of what is expected of you in the class. Please read this carefully and ask any questions if you do not understand something. You are responsible for knowing the contents.

CLASS GOAL
The goal of this class is to expose you to a variety of team sports and give you a chance to experience the activity through your participation. The units we will participate in this year are basketball, volleyball, track, football, floor hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and softball.

EXPECTATIONS OF THE STUDENTS
In order to stand the best chance of being successful in class (grades and personal enjoyment), you must:
1) attend class 2) be on time 3) dress out 4) participate
5) Listen and be respectful to your peers and teacher.

GRADING
It is important that each of you understand the grading procedure. Your grade is broken down into three areas: daily participation, written tests, and skill tests. Points are recorded for your performance in each of these areas and at the end of the semester your grade is based on the number of points you have achieved.
PERCENTAGE SYSTEM: A=90% B=80% C=70% D=60%.
DAILY PARTICIPATION: Refers to dressing out properly and giving your best effort. It counts for approximately 60% of your grade and is the easiest requirement.
FAILING TO DRESS OUT IS THE EASIEST WAY TO RUIN YOUR GRADE OR GET REMOVED FROM CLASS.

Absences: When you are absent, you will be expected to make up the work missed if the absence is excused. Absences can only be excused through the administration, so please know and follow the school’s policies on excusing absences. School planned absences and athletic events automatically count as an excused absence but you are still expected to make up any missed work.

Make-Ups: These are the responsibility of the student to arrange with the teacher. Excused absences can be made up by doing: 1) a written report, 2) an exercise log, and 3) leading exercises and helping with equipment. A maximum of 5 classes can be made up outside of class. Over 5 absences in a 9 week period, the work needs to be made up during class or by appointment.
Tardies: If you are tardy to class, you may be deducted participation points. A tardy is defined as a student not being in roll call order when attendance has begun. The locker room is usually closed 5 minutes after the last bell. You will not be allowed to dress out after the locker room has been locked. GET TO CLASS ON TIME.
Written and Skills Tests: They constitute the rest of the final grade. The written tests focus on rules, history, and strategy of the sport. Skill testing will be done to show improvement in each sport.
THE IMPORTANT THING TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE EXCEPTIONAL ATHLETE TO GET AN “A” IN FRESHMAN PE, BUT YOU HAVE TO WORK.

UNIFORM STANDARD
A student is expected to wear a CDO T-shirt, athletic shorts and shoes in order to participate. In cooler weather sweats are fine. Failure to dress out properly will result in loss of points. 7 dress cuts and you can be removed from the class.

SAFETY CONCERNS AND EQUIPMENT CARE
Each student will be expected to follow the basic safety policies in order to provide a safe learning environment for the class. Failure to do so may result in lack of participation (with no credit) and/or a referral.
1) Report any injuries immediately
2) Report to teacher before class any condition or injury which would limit
your participation.
3) During any injury, leave student and go get the teacher.
4) No horseplay or vulgarity.
5) Follow warm-up procedures properly.
6) All equipment must be put away when class is completed.
