INFORMATION UPDATE
|
Dear Parents and Caregivers, I hope this finds you all well and enjoying our beautiful weather. This quarter is zipping by so quickly. I have enjoyed getting to know your children better. They are a super bunch, with so much heart. I have to tell you, when my father was seriously ill and in the hospital, the hugs, and sweet words were given in abundance. Even the rough and tough boys, showed true empathy. I know this is a testament to your parenting and I thank you for that. I’d like to thank all of you for the donations from the Book Fair. My students get excited when they have new books from which to choose. I’m trying to read as many of them myself, so that I can give recommendations. If you know of any books that you think would light a fire for our students, please let me know.
There is a Scholastic book order coming home today and if you didn’t get a chance to get to the Book Fair, there are several good books on this order form. Book orders are online; When you order, we receive books for our classroom library. All orders are due by March 1.

Also, thank you to everyone who sent supplies and gift cards, for supplies. It looks like we are covered for now; at least for a while. I really appreciate your continued support. I cannot thank you enough for all your help, with both supplies and your work in our classroom.
In Social Studies, we are wrapping up the study of Greece and we will begin the study of ancient India.
We are just finishing our book talk books in Reading. We will begin working on functional and persuasive techniques used in non-fiction. Weekly root words, vocabulary, and comprehension homework will continue. Root and vocabulary test are every other Wednesday. Comprehension homework is due on Fridays.
In Writing, students will be completing the first half of the research project next week. Their post-card will be due on March 1st. We will then begin the second part of the research project. A copy of the research packet is on my web page.
With more than a half a year behind us, I am really focusing on teaching personal responsibility. In no time, my students will be in 7th grade and I want them to be prepared. I am strictly adhering to the homework and absentee policy (found in the packet you received in the beginning of the year and available on my web page). I feel as if I would be doing a disservice to my students if I didn’t hold them accountable for their actions. I would really appreciate your support in this area. I feel confident that if we work as a team, your children, my students, will be more successful in the future. This is a great time to learn these lessons. I’d much rather they deal with the consequences of their actions now, then in high school, when it becomes high stakes.
As always, if you have questions please call or e-mail me.
Sincerely yours, Michelle Johnson Language Arts/Social Arts 520-696-5863 mijohnso@amphi.com
