Dear Parents,
As you may have heard, we had a wonderful time at camp. Students were positive, chaperones were fantastic, and the weather was great. Thank you for all your wonderful support. We have snacks and water left over that we will use for the last day of school and other things in the next two weeks.
We have one more request. Students have been saving Bobcat dollars throughout the year. We would like to have an auction during the last week of school. In order for this to be a success, we need prizes. Ask your son/daughter what you might donate. We can use small items (for example, a full size candy bar) and larger items. Some years people have also donated new items they have that a family member other than the fifth grader might like. Students have bid on these items and used them as presents. You may send items in between now and next Monday.
We have many exciting things and learning going on in the next two weeks. One of the big things will be our visions. This is probably one of the most important things we have done this year. Research shows that the best predictor of lifelong success in this age students is whether or not students have a “vision” for life. This is the one thing I keep forever from each student, and I will send a copy in the last report card for you. I know you will want to keep it too.
Although book reports are not required in May, there will be a lot of reading for class on nearly every night. Students who choose to do May book reports will receive extra credit in reading.
Wednesday, May 23 is scrubbing day. Each student needs to bring an old rag for scrubbing. Each student is responsible for cleaning his/her own desk. We will also pack up desks, turn in books, and clean our room. All books and library books need to be returned before report cards will be given.
As a final celebration of our school year, there will be a swim party at James Kriegh Pool on Thursday, May 24. We are asking to students to donate $5.00. This will cover the cost of the bus and the pool admission. Please send the money by Tuesday, May 22. Each student needs to bring the following to school on Thursday, May 24: · Swimsuit (worn under clothes) · Hat and/or sunglasses · Sunscreen · Towel · Water bottle (soda or gum are not allowed) · Appropriate shoes for activity (sandals and/or tennis shoes) We will play some games in addition to swimming. · Any sports equipment for games (However, they must be responsible for whatever they bring.)
The following are NOT allowed: · Candy, gum, sunflower seeds · Electronics of any kind · Hard balls
Thanks again for your continued support. A super thank you to all the camp chaperones and barbecue cooks. We had eight parent chaperones from our class. They were Ally Short, Maria Trujillo, Lonnie Lybarger, Sergio Mendez, Theresa Stanley, Liz Johnson, Kipp Drake, and Aris Andricopoulos. Theresa Stanley, Lonnie Lybarger, Kipp Drake, and Aris Andricopoulos took three days off work and stayed at camp the entire time! Andrea Lybarger and Michelle Andricopoulos headed the barbecue and were aided by Sylvia Mendez, Dee Safley, Mary Warner, and Eldor Mundschenk. We could not have done it without all of you, including parents who donated snacks and supported your student in this effort!
On to a productive, exciting last two weeks to end the school year . . .
Sincerely,
Mary Lee
