| Homework Policy |
Homework is due at the beginning of class the day after the assignment is given. NO LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED. WORK IS TO BE SHOWN ON ALL HOMEWORK PROBLEMS TO RECEIVE FULL CREDIT. Students will grade their homework daily in class.
If ALL the problems on the assignment have been completed and work is shown on ALL problems, 10 out of 10 points is awarded. Work is incomplete if ALL the problems have not been completed, at least half the problems are completed, or the work is not shown for ALL problems. Five points will be awarded for an incomplete assignment.
If the assignment is not done at all or less than half the problems are completed, a zero will be given.
Students will be given the number of days they were absent to complete any missing assignments. If work is not completed in this amount of time, a zero will be awarded for each assignment not done.
Students will record homework percentages on their checksheets to record achievement in each lesson. |
| Quiz/Test Policy |
Quizzes are given at the midpoint of each chapter. The quizzes assess student understanding of the homework and prepare them for the upcoming chapter test.
Chapter tests are given approximately every two to three weeks. |
| Checksheets |
Students will record all homework assignments, mid-chapter quizzes, and tests on their checksheets.
Checksheets are collected from the students on the same day the graded chapter tests are returned to the students.
A checksheet grade is given each chapter based on accurately recording the homework for the chapter, the mid-chapter quiz grade, and the chapter test grade. The points for the checksheet equal the number of recorded homework assignments for the chapter plus the recorded mid-chapter quiz plus the recorded chapter test. The checksheet grade will be entered as a homework grade.
The checksheet is useful for students as well as parents to keep record of student achievement in each category.
Checks mean 100% completion of homework assignments and work is shown on ALL problems. Students will get 10 points for the assignment if they receive a check.
A zero means the assignment was not done at all or less than half of the assignment was completed.
An "I" means the assignment was incomplete, and five points is given for the assignment.
The percentages recorded under homework for each assignment is determined by students who daily grade their homework in class the day after the homework was assigned.
If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to grade any missing homework assignment and record the percentage on the checksheet. |
| Progress Reports |
After every chapter test (2-3 weeks), I will update your child's grade on my website. Included in the update will be a homework grade for the chapter, a grade for the checksheet, a midchapter quiz grade for the chapter, and a chapter test grade.
Following each chapter, I will send home a hard copy of your child's grade on a piece of paper (progress report). There will be several lines to include comments or questions concerning the latest progress report. It is very important to check your child's grade online. Communication between parent and teacher is essential to ensure student success. |
