High School Credit for Algebra and Geometry

Will students get high school credit for this class?
Yes. All students enrolled in Mr. Warrick's or Mr. Bayne's Algebra or Geometry class will receive high school mathematics credit at Ironwood Ridge High School. (Note: Salpointe does NOT accept math courses taken in middle school for high school credit. Contact Salpointe for more information.)

What grade will be on my high school transcript?
The grade you earn in the class at Coronado will be the SAME grade you will have on your permanent high school record. Since high school awards grades by semester instead of by quarter, the student's average for the first two quarters will determine the first semester grade. Likewise, the 3rd and 4th quarter grades will determine the secend semester grade.

What if the class is too difficult? Can I move down a level?
Since Coronado is following the High School guidelines for dropping a class, there are two windows of time to drop the class. The first opportunity has to be within the first 10 days of school. The second chance to drop the class is at the end of the first semester (end of second quarter).

If the student performs poorly, can they retake the class in high school to replace their grade?
Students who perform poorly in either Algebra or Geometry at Coronado do have the option of retaking the class at IRHS. However, the grade earned at Coronado will remain on their permanent high school record and be averaged into the student's high school GPA. The new grade will NOT replace the old grade. Both grades will impact the student's GPA and the record will show the students took the class twice and both grades will be displayed.

Are there Honors Level courses available?
For the 2008-2009 school year, we are offering one section of Honors Geometry only.

For 8th students who earn a 90% average or better for the year will be recommended to take Honors for their next math course at Ironwood Ridge High School.
