Net Buddy Night

Net Buddy Nights

You and a partner are to hold two Net Buddy events for your students to “buddy” with their parents. Your events could be in the afternoon or in the evening, whichever will better match your population. The length of time is up to you, but an hour seems to be the very minimum time to really allow time for the kids to explain and parents to explore!

You can have students from one teacher’s class for the first event and the other teacher’s on the second event, or you can mix them.

Suggestions:

  • Check with the person in charge of reserving your lab/library space to make sure the date(s) you want are available!! This is critical.

  • Create a flyer or invitation (or have the kids create it!) to advertise your event.

  • Include an “RSVP” slip so you know which parents plan to attend. A day or so before the event, send home a reminder to the parents.

  • Decide if you want this to be a family event including siblings and include that information in your flyer. Make sure to ask for the number of people attending so you can plan accordingly!

  • Set a limit and include that information also—you don’t want so many people that they can’t all have access to the computers.

  • Work with your students to plan the event!

  • Do you want students to demonstrate lessons you have shown them?

  • Do you want to give them some specific sites to visit? (share the educational sites you use with your students)

  • Decide if you will serve refreshments. (Sorry, we have no budget for this.)

  • Have an agenda.

  • Tell the parents about the Ed Tech Grant – No Child Left Behind Grant and how your students are benefiting from your participation

What you need to turn in after each Net Buddy Night:
  • Flyer advertising event

  • Attendance Sheet

  • Agenda of what you did
