Scanning Basics |
A scanner is a peripheral that takes a physical image such as a photograph, text, or picture and converts it to a digital image. OCR is a common term in scanning and stands for Optical Character Recognition which is the recognition of printed or written text characters by a computer with special software during the scanning process.
You need to place the image to be scanned on your scanner in the appropriate corner and make sure the scanner is on. You should set any specifications for your final image (do you want it to be text, text and image or just an image. You need to load your scanning software and ask it to Start a New Scan.
In either the scanning software program or a photo editing program you will want to make some adjustments, especially if you are going to put the final document on the web.
Crop - trim the picture down to the size to get the best composition.
Brightness and Contrast - adjust the brightness and contrast to achieve the best picture
Resize the Image - adjust the image size for the final output, if you are putting it on the Amphi Novus Teacher Web program, the average picture size is 300 by 300 pixels. The larger the picture size, the longer it takes to load the page on the web. So think small.
Saving - save the image as a .jpg or .jpeg if you are going to put the picture on the web or email it. Be sure to not use any special characters or spaces in the name. Do not use periods or dashes.
