Dear Students:
Welcome to Cross Middle School! My name is Mrs. Kittell. I am excited about a new year here at Cross, and I look forward to working with all of you in Science!
There are a few things I would like to tell you about myself before we start the school year. My last name is Kittell. It is pronounced KIT TELL.

Items of Interest Grades
Your grade will be based on four different categories. These are:
o Tests (40%)
o Class Work (25%)
o Current Events (20%)
o Homework (15%)

Progress Reports
Progress reports can be view on-line at the web site to help you monitor your class progress. These reports will include your grade, test and quiz scores, participation scores, and any missing assignments. Please check your grade on the site every Friday.

Absences
If you are absent, you will have the same number of days equal to your absence to turn in assignments. It is your responsibility to find out what it is you missed and to turn in your work to the appropriate place.

Homework and Late Work
All homework needs to be completed in pencil or pen, have, the correct heading, and be turned in to the correct place to receive credit. I will give you all of this information in class. Late work will only be accepted for 50% credit up to one day after its due date. For example, if it was due on Tuesday, half credit will be issued on Wednesday.

Materials and Organization
Having the correct materials for any class will help ensure your success in that class. Materials each student should have every day are:
o Pencil(s)
o Loose notebook paper
o Folder for organization
o We always need tissues

I highly recommend that you keep all class notes very well organized in a spiral notebook. I will give you a format to use during class for this. During the semester, I will be having notebook checks. This is done by giving a quiz based on a topic in your notes. I will ask you specific questions about the notes that were taken in class. Be sure to keep up to date on them. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to get the missed information. Think of these quizzes as easy points to be earned, If you are organized.

Textbooks
You will be issued a textbook for the classroom, and one to take and leave at home. Please take extra care with the home books (due to limited resources, misplaced or damaged books must be replaced by you.) We will also be using handout activities and a variety of other resources to help you learn.

Classroom Expectations
Are based on the behaviors described in the behavior agreement
It is very important for all students to live up to the Classroom Expectations in order to maximize our learning time and be good Science students. Together we can make this happen.

In closing, welcome to Cross Middle School! I am looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,
Susie Kittell Science Teacher Cross Middle School
