Grading Procedures

On student work, I will include either the letter grade (E, S+, etc.) or the numerical grade (100%), and sometimes I include both.

When I grade pieces of student writing, I look for different elements of the 6 Traits of Writing - conventions (punctuation, capital letters at the beginning of sentences, etc.), ideas, word choice, sentence fluency, voice, and organization - as well as spelling, use of grammar, paragraphing, the amount of written work completed, and neat handwriting. I do not look for all of these items at the same time.

Math homework (set of 30 problems) is graded daily by the students as a whole class review activity. Four out of the five days, I will only give an effort and participation grade for the homework. On the fifth day, I will collect, grade and enter the total score into my gradebook.

Work will be sent home in the Take Home Folder along with the Weekly Communication Report every Tuesday. Please look for important information from the school on that day.

On monthly printed grade reports and quarterly report cards, I use E(outstanding), S+(more than satisfactory), S(satisfactory), S-(less than satisfactory), and N (needs improvement/area of concern) for grades. E=95-100%, E-=89-94% S+=83-88%, S=76-82%, S-=69-75%, N=68% and below.
