REACH/Gifted Testing for Students Not Currently Enrolled in Amphitheater Public School

In April 2010, the REACH/Gifted Department of Amphitheater Public Schools will offer gifted testing for students who are not currently enrolled in Amphitheater Schools. This assessment will provide parents with the information they may need to make decisions about educational placements for their children.

The Arizona Department of Education HB 2552 identifies gifted students as those who score in the 97th percentile or above on a test of abilities. For students in grades 2-11,the REACH/Gifted assessment process will utilize the Cognitive Abilities Test to evaluate verbal and quantitative reasoning and the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test, a test of general abilities given in a nonverbal format. Kinder and first grade students will not be eligible for this testing.

The cost of testing will be $75. The non-refundable fee must be paid by April 1,2010. Payment can be made through checks made payable to Amphitheater Public Schools. Testing will take place on Friday, April 16th, 8-12, in the Governing Board Room at Wetmore Center.

Test results will be mailed 4-6 weeks after testing. The results will not become part of the Amphitheater REACH/Gifted database unless the student enrolls in an Amphitheater School within 12 months. Parents will be responsible for maintaining their own record of the testing results.

If your child is identified as having a need for gifted services, you can present the results when you enroll your child in Amphitheater or any other Arizona public school. Services will differ from district to district.

Contact Sandi Sherman, Testing Coordinator, for further information and/or to reserve a space for testing. Ms. Sherman will contact all participants the week before testing.
