Welcome to Mrs. Pruzin's First Grade Classroom
Welcome to Bear Country! I love teaching children of all ages, but first graders are my favorite! I have taught First grade, Kindergarten, Pre-first and Second grade.I had a Pre-school class in my home one year. This is my 32nd year of teaching. 25 of those years have been spent teaching first graders.

In addition to being a teacher I am a wife and a mom! I have been married to Jim Pruzin for 32 wonderful years. I have two sons: Loren is 30 years old and Jeremy is 26 years old. I have a 1 1/2 year old yorkie-poo named Asta. I was born and raised in Merrillville, Indiana. I moved to Arizona in 1976.

I attended Indiana University, Purdue University, and University of Phoenix. I have a B.S. in Education with ESL and Early Childhood endorsements. I was awarded Ben's Bells in the fall of 2007. My nomination was written by one of my former students who was in second grade when I received the bells. This is the highlight of my teaching career because the honor came from one of my students.

My goal is to help my students become independent thinkers and learners who ask questions. They will strive to solve their own problems, but know they can get help from me when they need it.

Together we will make this an exciting and very special year for your child. Your child will become a fluent reader, an author, a mathematician, and a problem solver.

We will actively learn and follow these Lifelong Guidelines: Personal Best, Truthfulness, Trustworthiness, Active Listening, No Put Downs.

Labeled means the envelope should have: the child's first and last name, the word lunch money, and Mrs. Pruzin printed on it. This method is strongly recommended.

I will keep you informed about our first grade class via a weekly School to Home Newsletter from Bear Country, Fridge Facts, and the Monthly News. The Monthly News is posted on this site. (I will send a hard copy to anyone who requests it.) The weekly newsletter will be sent home on Sundays through e-mail, or on Mondays, if you prefer a hard copy. Everyone will get a hard copy of the Fridge Facts in the homework folder every Thursday. There is also a link to the weekly newsletter on the bottom of this page.

Please call the school office if your child is going to be absent at 696-6800. If your child is late, he/she must check in at the school office and obtain a late pass before coming to class.

My Classroom telephone number: 520-696-6829
If you call this number and I am teaching, you will get my voice mail. Leave a message and I will return your call that same day.
