Looking for ways to help your child in school this

year? Just remember these ABC'S.


A...Ask your child about school every day.

B...Bedtime is important. Make sure your child gets enough sleep.

C...Choose activities your child will like. Leave time for play.

D...Do things together. Car time is a great time for talking.

E...Encourage your child to write at home.

F...Fix your child a good breakfast every morning.

G...Get to know your child's teacher.

H...Help your child to learn to be responsible about returning homework and behavior/work sheets on time.

I...Involve your child in making decisions whenever you can.

J...Join the school's parent-teacher organization and attend the meetings.

K...Know the class and school rules. Be sure your child knows them, too.

L...Look in your child's backpack every day.

M...Make sure that you read my School to Home Newsletter every week. Also read the School's weekly Notes Home and my Monthly News.

N...Notice and discuss with the teacher any changes in your child's behavior.

O...Organization saves time. Have a special place for school supplies, library books, poem folders, class made books, and homework.

P...Play games together.

Q...Questions help children learn. Help your child find the answers.

R...Read to your child for 15 minutes every day. Also, be sure that your child reads to you for 15 minutes every day.

S...Study the sight, spelling and chunk words with your child every week.

T...Take your child to the library on a regular basis.

U...Urge your child to do his/her personal best in school and at home.

V...Volunteer your time at your child's school.

W...Work with your child's teachers and school personnel. You are an important part of the team that will help your child learn.

X...X-tra hugs are a great way to say "I love you!"

Y...Yield good results by praising your child. Praise something in every bit of work that is brought home.
