Beginning 3-D Art and Advanced Ceramics Course Syllabus
Attendance and Tardies
All students are responsible for all material found in the student planner regarding school policies. When absences reach the maximum level (7), students will be dropped or retained according to teacher discretion and circumstance. This will be executed on a case by case analysis. Students will make every attempt to be on time and ready to work when the bell sounds. If a student is tardy, it is the responsibility of that student to communicate to the teacher the reasons for being late. Chronic tardies and absences will hurt the student's success and will affect the cumulative grade. Absenteeism and tardy issues will be addressed by all concerned parties in order to remedy this behavior. Upon request, students will have the opportunity to attend any tutorial period at the end of the day to make up for lost classtime.
Studio Projects and Delinquent Make Up Work
All students will be assessed and will be required to attempt all projects challenges to the best of his/her abilities. Failure to attempt a project or unit of study will jeopardize that student's success and affect the cumulative grade. If a student is suspended, vacationing, or a religious affiliation where any time away from the class occurs, that student is expected to make up for that work and will be assigned work outside the classroom setting. Delinquent work will be accepted only on conditions established by the teacher.
Effort
All students will be partially assessed based upon their displays of concentrated effort and focus of attention in a 90 minute period. All students are expected to attempt each unit challenge to the best of their abilities. If a student is self-motivated, focused, and demonstrates a genuine effort by being on task for over 60/90 min, conducted over the length of that unit of study, regardless of project outcome. That student will have demonstrated an excellent effort. If a student is off task, more than on task, where the focus of attention is <45/90 min period, and if that student has to be constantly reminded to stay on task, or is not motivated by the climate of this class, the success of that student will be jeopardized. This lack of focus and effort will affect the grade. This effort will categorized as under performing.
Writing Samples, Notes, Journal Work
All students will be assessed and be responsible for all note taking, in class writing samples and all other journal work conducted through the course of challenges. All writing samples will equal in weight to that of all studio challenges. All studnts will be encouraged to write to their grade level at all times. Verbal and written communication skills will be encouraged and practiced in order to compliment the conditions of AIMS preparation and graduation.
