Amphitheater Public Schools
August 2008

Dear Amphitheater Parent or Guardian:

Like you, our desire is your child's safety from the moment they leave your home in the morning until they return safely that afternoon. This can be best achieved by our working together. You can help by discussing a few simple but effective precautions with your child concerning their time away from home. These precautions include making sure you and your child know the following:

  1. The walking route to take to and from the bus stop
  2. The safety precautions and proper behavior to be maintained in route and at the bus stop
  3. The correct bus route number (a signed note from the parent/guardian is required to ride a different bus or to get off at a stop other than the usual stop for that student)
  4. What to do if the bus is more than 15 minutes late
  5. Carry school ID at all times
In addition, it is critical that your child ALWAYS boards and departs the bus at the correct stop as known and approved by you. Children should be at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the scheduled pick up time. Although we hope it will never be necessary for your family to be concerned with violations of bus rules, you and your child should be aware of the discipline procedures designed to correct problems. Please take a few moments to go over these rules, which are attached.

  1. Always comply with the bus drivers/monitors directions
  2. Use classroom voice only. (Never use profanity or loud noises)
  3. Remain seated with your seat belt buckled
  4. Keep your hands, feet and head inside the bus
  5. Keep unathorized materials and substances off the bus.
(Snacks, drinks, animals, glass objects, weapons, large radios)

The consequences of inappropriate behavior or actions on the bus are fully explained in the Student Code of Conduct. PLEASE NOTE: IN INCIDENTS INVOLVING MAJOR VIOLATIONS DESCRIBED IN THE STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT AN IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION OF RIDING PRIVILEGES MAY BE IMPOSED.

Bus stops are reviewed on an ongoing basis, mostly during the summer. Should you have any concerns about bus stop safety or request a new bus stop, please complete and submit the Bus Stop Concern/Request Form.

By working together we can safeguard your child from potential hazards associated with all aspects of transportation, both on and off the bus. I hope you and your child have a productive and safe year.

Sincerely,

Marc Lappitt
Director of Transportation
