ACADEMIC SUCCESS

Ironwood Ridge High School strives to provide a rigorous and relevant education for all students.

From time to time, every student will face an academic challenge that requires additional support.

For these situations, IRHS offers a variety of support to help students succeed including:

Conference Period

Occurring every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 to about 9:30 a.m., Conference Period is an ideal time for students to visit their teachers for tutoring or to make-up work.

The library is available for research or student study groups.

Many clubs also meet during Conference Period.

While IRHS does not take student attendence during Conference Period, parents interested in checking their child's Conference Period attendence are welcome to download and print a Conference Period Attendance Sheet here.

After-School Tutoring

Free tutoring is available from IRHS faculty members in the IRHS Library after school from 3:15 to 5:15.

The tutoring schedule is as follows:

Mondays:
Math only, with an emphasis on AlgII/Trig, Pre-Calculus and Calculus

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays:
Math, Science, English and (most days) Modern Languages

There is no tutoring on half days, Veteran's Day, and the week of Thanksgiving.

The library can also be used during this time as quiet place to study, research, or meet with a student study group.

A schedule of which teachers are tutoring which afternoons is available for download here.

While IRHS does not take student attendence during After- School Tutoring, parents interested in checking their child's After-School Tutoring Attendance are welcome to download and print an After-School Tutoring Attendance Sheet  here.

Pyramid of Interventions

Students, Parents/Guardians, Teachers, Counselors, Support Specialists and Administrators all play a role in student academic success.

The Pyramid of Interventions provides additional ideas to assist students in academic success.

The Pyramid of Interventions is available for download and printing here.

Nighthawk Family Guide to Freshmen Success

The Nighthawk Family Guide to Freshmen Success, written by IRHS faculty member and published author Jim Ewing,   provides parents practical tips and strategies to help their child succeed in high school.

The book is available for free download at the IRHS website.

Simply click on “Quicklinks” and then select “Freshmen Success.”

Reporting Academic Progress

Every IRHS teachers maintains a website that includes posting student grades.  Grades should be updated at least once every two weeks; many teachers update grades more frequently.

At a student’s request, teachers can provide weekly progress reports.  Usually done on Friday’s, the student simply provides the “Progress Report” form to each teacher at the start of class.  The teacher will complete and return the form to the student before class ends.

The Progress Report Form is available for download and printing here.

Every teacher also has an email account and individual voice mail.  These can be accessed at the IRHS website.

Phone calls to the main IRHS reception at 696-3900 can also be appropriately forwarded.

Progress reports are distributed to students in their third period class about once a month through the school year.  Semester grade reports, which compose a student’s official transcript, occur at the end of each semester in December and May.
