Prologue:  An Important Warning

Journal Activity: Think about a time when you were in an unfamiliar or unusual situation that made you feel uneasy. How did you get through the experience?  Write about an unfamiliar experience in which you were uncomfortable. Include details that help explain your feelings.

Teacher reads the prologue to the class.

This Prologue Worksheet has teacher’s questions about the book's prologue.

You may also ask:
 1. Is this book written in the 1st or 3rd person? (The story is told entirely from Charlotte's perspective in a first person narrative voice. The reader follows her as her experiences change her perceptions of various characters in the novel.)
2. Why is Charlotte crossing the Atlantic by herself?
