2007 Ironman Results

Kids who increase their physical activity from three to five days a week show:

20% improvement in fitness

15% - 20% improvement in self esteem

20% improvement in school attendance

20% improvement in school grades

50% reduction in smoking

60% reduction in drug and alcohol use

The surgeon General has called for a national attack on obesity and his number one recommendation is for all schools to provide daily physical education for every grade.
The leading causes of death in the United States are largely lifestyle-related!

  • The Average child gets less than 15 minutes of vigorous activity a day.
  • The average child spends 20 percent of his/her waking time watching TV.
  • Thirty-six percent of kids get two or fewer days of physical education a week at school.
  • nine out of ten parents think their children are fit, when only one of three is.
  • Children exercise less as they get older, boys about 3 percent less each year, girls 7.5 percent
