Developing Computer Activities for the Computer Lab or Classroom
I like the idea, but I worry about those kids who don't have computers at home and then I would have to make time available for them to get online.
I'd like to use this for our English 9 and 10. Since Reading is a huge focus, these classes are doing a lot of work on novels and other literary stuff. With this, the students can talk about the books, magazines, etc. they are reading so they can get more out of it. It will also be a nice way to see what some of our hackers are trying to do as they think they are untouchable.
I am also going to use blogging to help our Independent Study Art students connect with each other, share topics, teach each other how to do various types of projects, and talk about what they have learned. As our curriculum is set up right now, these students don't get a chance to meet each other and discuss, but with blogging they can!
This looks like a great way to have a discussion. The one problem I see is that high school teachers will have to have separate blogs for each class (even though they may be teaching the same thing) simply due to the volume of input it will generate.
I love blogging! The students are engaged and are very interested in sharing their ideas. The kids want to do a Harry Potter blog for those who have parent permission to read. I am in the planning process of this! We'll see how it goes!
This is interesting. Not as interesting as the Discourse materials. Anyone got an extra $14,000? Maybe I'll try that Friday night..... "Trick or Treat, got $14,000 for my school? " Let you know how that works out :)
I would like to have my students give a preview of their Accelerated Reader book projects that are due the 14th of November. For a few of them this would be a good reminder that they have a book project due in a little over two weeks. But, for most of the class it would be a motivation tool to get the projects underway and to share a little information with the class ahead of time.
I am going to use blogging in our English/Technology class while we study the Arthurian Legends. Each student group is focusing a research project on a particular character or topic (e.g. the Sword in the Stone, the Lady in the Lake, King Arthur, etc.), however all these topics overlap a great deal. Each student will focus on a particular topic, but then contribute to the blog by posting at least one entry to each of the other groups' topics to discuss the connections between their topic and the other topics in the class groups.
I am going to use blogging in either my language arts or my math class. I like what Liesl is doing with her math class I may give that a try. Not only could you poat challenge problems but also review concepts that the students may still be struggling with. As a school teachers could use it to share technolgy ideas or any ideas! We are always saying that we don't have time to talk about what other teachers are doing - this could be a quick place to share cool ideas.
I am going to set up a blog for my family to discuss setting up a cruise to Alaska next summer. Cool....
I can see a lot of possibilities with blogging, and I love the idea that many of my quiet students would be able to share in a different venue. Like so many other things, though, it's a little overwhelming at first, and I'm trying to figure out when I would keep up with this.
I can see a real use for this for teachers within grade levels or subject areas to have a place to post lesson ideas, webpages, etc. that they want to share with other teachers. My fear is trying to get teachers to do one more thing during their day. I would have to come up with a way to make them see the value of spend some time doing it. Having some inservice time to actually blog would be very nice. ~Liesl
Kids love blogging and are very good at it - they have incredible speed - just don't check their spelling!
