Asakusa
From mid 1800s until World War II, Asakusa was the center of all fine things in Tokyo.
Best known temple in Tokyo is the Senso-ji or Asakusa Kannon Temple, dedicated to the goddess Kannon.
Senso-ji is a Buddhist temple built in 1649 – several structures survived the 1945 bombing and other earthquakes and fires.
Senso-ji enshrines a statue of Kannon, which according to legend two fishermen retrieved from the Sumida River in 628 AD.
