The Battle of Trenton

On Christmas night of 1776, the Americans crossed the ice-choked Delaware River in their small boats. Then they marched silently through the freezing darkness of Trenton. Meanwhile, 1,200 Hessians were enjoying the warm holiday in the village of Trenton, New Jersey. In Trenton, the Hessians were completely surprised. After a short battle, they surrendered. The news of victory at Trenton thrilled the country. Thousands of Americans volunteered to fight in the war. The war was not lost after all. Savannah Click here to return to the Student's Page
