Classroom Policy and Procedures
For your information, I have outlined several classroom policies and my discipline plan.
Classroom Policies and Rules
Your child will:
Consequences and Rewards
To encourage my students to follow the classroom rules, I will recognize appropriate individual and group behavior with daily praise, positive notes home, and positive phone calls. Students can earn praise by returning homework daily, good behavior, and having a good attitude. Praise is also earned for great behavior, for example, coming in quietly each morning and getting started on their assignment, coming in quietly after lunch to cool down and getting a drink, working on their assignments at their desks, working well with others, etc.
Homework
Math and spelling homework will be given out Monday through Thursday.  Each student is expected to bring back their homework folder daily.  In addition to their homework folder, they will be receiving a SFA Reading folder which they must also return daily with their 20 minutes of Read & Respond homework completed.
Volunteers
If you are interested in helping out in our classroom, please let me know.  I would love to have you come in!  I am also looking for parent volunteers who will help the class with parties and special activities.
Classroom Supply Wish List
Each year, we receive numerous requests from parents as to what types of supplies would be most beneficial when families do their back-to-school shopping.  For this reason, a list of recommended supplies is included below.

However, please understand that these items are considered donations and are by no means a requirement for this class.  These donations are helpful to the school, but all necessary materials will be supplied by the school.  We provide this list only to help parents if they choose to supply materials for donations.  Thank you.

large boxes of kleenex
glue sticks
erasers
box of  #2 pencils
 box of colorful markers
8 or 16 count box of crayons
college theme paper

Meet Ms. Schiffman

My name is Sandy Schiffman and I am glad to be your child's fourth grade teacher.  This is my fourth year at Keeling Elementary School.  I am originally from Washington, D.C. but moved to Tucson, Arizona to get away from the cold! (Remember it's dry heat!)

I have had the opportunity to live around the world including places such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, and Israel. I've enjoyed the diverse cultures that I have encountered and try to bring a multicultural approach to my classroom.

There are four things in this world that I enjoy - children, sunflowers, stars, and dogs.  You will see these themes throughout my web page.  From children, you learn something new everyday. Sunflowers bring joy because they always turn their faces to the sun.  Stars are important because they are something to always reach for.  And dogs, because they love you no matter what you do.

I have a wonderful dog that I love, his name is Jabo and his picture is below. I would love to hear from you, please feel free to email me with questions or comments about my web site or my classroom.
