Brief Description
My K-8 School has students
from three different elementary schools enter as 6th graders. Some of the
5th graders have attended the K-8 as 5th graders, but many have attended
fifth grade at one of two feeder schools. This lesson can be used to introduce
all in-coming 5th grade students to 6th grade.

Pre-Requisite Technology Skills

Students will need to know how
to use at least one of the following: video camera, I-movie, digital
camera, scanner, PowerPoint, word processing software. Note: The
more skills the students posess, the more varied their presentation can
be.
Materials
Some of the following need
to be available, but not all: video camera, digital camera, computers,
scanner, PowerPoint, Kid Pix
Accommodations for Special
Needs
Special needs students will
be more successful working with a group of students. Since this lesson
is intended to be completed by teams of student, the accommodations for
special needs are met.
Procedures
Introduction:

The teacher will present the task,
perhaps saying,"Today we are going to think way back to when you were finishing
5th grade. What concerns did you have about coming to 6th grade?" Students
will engage in a brainstorming activity where they list the concerns they
had about coming to 6th grade.

The teacher will then introduce
the task: "You are going to create a presentation that might be presented
to this year's 5th graders. In this presentation you are required to use
technology tools to address some concerns that you predict this year's
5th graders may have."

The teacher will then post a list
of technology tools available to the students.

The teacher will then lead the
students in a brainstorming session where
students list a variety presentation ideas. Ideas may include, but are
not limited to: the day of a 6th grader, the 6th grade teachers at Coronado,
the buildings and facilities at Coronado, etc

The teacher will share the Explanation
sheet with the students.
