Brief Description
Students will use Inspiration
to brainstorm and organize the information they have learned about Ancient
Egypt to create a web document, and then use the Inspiration document to
plan and create a presentation in PowerPoint. Students may use the Internet
to find pictures for the PP slide show. Each student will present final
products to the class. (This lesson presupposes that students have
been studying Ancient Egypt and have a good base of knowledge on the topic.)

Procedures

Day One:

Explain the 2 parts of the assignment
(Inspiration and PowerPoint).

Have students brainstorm topics
related to Ancient Egypt –write their suggestions on the board, the overhead,
or the computer/averkey.

Model the use of Inspiration.
Use the categories students came up with during the brainstorming.
-
Distribute the Inspiration Handout.
Have students take turns reading the directions aloud.
-
Have students begin Inspiration
Webs.
Day Two:
-
Review use of Inspiration. Have
students continue with their webs.
-
By the end of class, they should
be ready to print.
Day Three:
-
Distribute the PowerPoint
Handout. Have students take turns reading the directions aloud.
-
Model the use of PowerPoint. Use
the students’ categories from their webs, and refer to the directions on
the students’ PP handout as you model.
-
Tell them that they must first
complete ALL text on their slides before they create backgrounds, insert
pictures, or add animation and transitions.

Distribute and explain the PP
Rubric for their presentations.
-
Have students begin PowerPoint
slide shows.
Day Four:
-
Most students will have completed
the text portion of their slides. Demonstrate again how to create backgrounds,
insert pictures, or add animation and transitions.

Go to the URLs on the handout
and demonstrate how to copy/paste the images.
Day Five:
-
Complete slide shows.

Carefully edit for proper conventions.
Days Six and Seven:

Discuss proper presentation style.

Distribute and discuss the PowerPoint
Presentation rubric.

Students will present their slide
shows to the class. Use the PowerPoint Presentation rubric to assess their
presentations.
