Brief Description
Students will be using Internet
resources to learn about Internet safety and will then create a PowerPoint
presentation to teach other students about Internet safety.
This lesson is designed to
be presented after students have learned to create a basic PowerPoint presentation.
This lesson could be taught before, during or after teaching basic Internet
skills.

Procedures
Day One:
(Prior to the first day, ask
two students to prepare to read the story “A Lesson for Sharing” aloud
to the class. One should be Shannon, the main character, and the other
should be her “online friend”).
A Lesson for Sharing
-
Begin with the students seated
away from their computers. Tell them they will be hearing a story read
aloud by two students. Have students begin reading.

Stop and discuss the story after
the online conversation between Shannon and her online friend. Ask what
information her online friend has gathered about her already. Continue
the story.

After the reading, have students
discuss safety issues as group.

assignment: using the web to learn about Internet Safety, using Word to
take notes, and using PowerPoint to create a presentation.
