Brief Description
Students will use cut and paste
commands to unscramble a Fable so that it is in the correct sequence in
a word processing document. During this lessons students will highlight
words that help them determine the correct sequence of the fable. They
will also explain why these clue words were helpful. Finally, students
will translate the moral of the fable in their own words.

All students will be working
with a partner.

Special needs students will be
placed with students that will be able to work with them to help them be
successful in this lesson.

Specifically, students who are
English language learning students, will be working with another student
who will be able to assist them with the English language.

Students who are high level readers
may be placed with students who are lower level readers.

If necessary, reading the sections
of this fable will be a whole-class activity so that all students understand
some of the more difficult vocabulary.

Students who are able to finish
this lesson quickly will be asked to create their own scrambled story.
These students will be able to either go to the Internet site where I found
this fable (http://www.aesopfables.com/)
and choose another fable to scramble or they may write their own short
story to scramble.
Procedures

Students will be introduced to
the lesson and its purpose.

Partners will be assigned so there
are two students per computer.

Demonstrate how to cut and paste
on the teacher workstation using the projector in the lab or the monitor
in the classroom before students go to the lab.

Students will be given worksheet
titled “Mercury Worksheet”

Students will be asked to open
Word document titled “Mercury and the Woodman2”
-
If necessary, the class will read
different sections of this document together and discuss meaning of vocabulary
words.

Students will be asked to use
cut and paste to unscramble the fable.

Students will print their finished
fable.

Students will complete worksheet.

Display correct
version of the fable.

Ask students to compare their
finished fable to the original version.

Students share their choice of
clue words with the class.

rubric. This rubric will allow students to rate themselves on how many
sections they placed in the correct sequence, if they chose word clues
and described how they helped, and how well they translated the moral of
the story.
