Procedures
-
We will discuss the fact that
we have many new families moving into our area that are trying to select
the right school for their children. Since we believe that our school
is the best place to get a quality education, we need to create a brochure
to show new comers the best of the best!!
-
Break students into groups to
discuss and brainstorm important features of our school.
-
Students will take notes in their
journal during the discussion
-
Students will decide on the 5
most important things they feel should be shared with newcomers.
-
Teacher will talk to the students
about the purpose of taking pictures and the fact that they should match
the information that is going to be in their brochure.
-
With a parent volunteer, students
will go out into the school and take 5-10 pictures of our school.
-
Students must insert their floppy,
take a picture and record the title of the picture in their journal.
-
After picture taking is complete,
students must compile notes in their journals about the pictures they have
taken.
-
Students must research facts about
the school to go with the 5 things they want to share on their brochure.
They can interview office staff, look at materials already printed, use
the Internet etc.
-
As students are researching, they
must be sure the information they are planning to use is factual.
-
Students must write a short description
of each fact. They must edit and revise information so they are ready
to type information in the Brochure.
-
Students must sketch a design
for their brochure (see attached Journal Design
Sheet)
Creating the Brochure
-
Using an overhead projection device
(AverKey, Proxima) demonstrate how to create a brochure using Microsoft
Publisher. (See Instruction Sheet - Creating
your Brochure using Microsoft Publisher)
-
Print your brochure. Display
your brochure. Give an oral presentation about your brochure
to the class!!!!!
Assessment
Collect and use journal notes
for editing and revisions data
Final Product
Teacher observation of students’
computer use and time on task (Anecdotal Records)
