Academic
Technological
- Students will predict how lightning occurs based on their observation and previous knowledge. (Synthesis).
- Students will apply their experiment materials and classify items in relation to actual principle. (Application and Analysis)
- Students will evaluate the experiment and decide if this experiment is a good representation of formation of lightning or changes should occur. (Evaluation)
Pre-Requisite Technology Skills
- Students will use their typing skills to type in the URL address.
- Students will use their mouse to move up and down as well as clicking on the pictures and to go backwards.
- Students will use Word to make their T-chart for comparing prediction with principle.
Materials
6 computers
1 Handout/group
1 set of experiment materials
(aluminum pie pan, wool material, tack, pencil with new eraser, and styrofoam
plate)
Accommodations for Special
Needs
One student will need light
worksheets to work on in another classroom.
Extra extentions of this activity
will be provided for groups that complete their lesson.
Procedures
1. Students will be
placed in groups of 4 and be given a handout.
2. Groups will sit at
their stations and begin to act out their jobs (recorder, supplier, reader,
time keeper).
3. Recorders will type
group prediction of how lightning works on the T-chart. The reader
will read what the recorder types so that he/she can catch the typing errors.
The timekeeper will have to keep watch of time so that group will complete
their
lesson in the amount of time
given.
4. Group will allow
the teacher to read their prediction and answer two questions about their
prediction.
5. The supplier will
obtain the necessary experiment materials while the reader tells the recorder
the URL address.
6. Group takes part
in completing the experiment with the reader reading the site directions,
the supplier working with the material, the recorder writing down results
and what they think each material acts as onto the handout, and the time-
keeper keeping watch of the clock.
7. Group will finish
the T-chart by having the recorder type in their understanding based on
the information from the Internet site and from their experimentation.
8. The recorder will
type group's evaluation and changes that they would make.
Assessment
1. Each group will print
out their T-chart and hand it in with their handout.
2. Teacher will keep
record of the two questions answered by the groups reflecting their typed
prediction.
3. Teacher will keep
running record of groups working quietly, cooperatively, and in remaining
on task.
