    Accommodations for Special Needs
Lesson can be modified to accommodate from beginning to intermediate English proficiency levels.

    Procedures

    1. Students label classroom using vocabulary cards.  Ten to twenty cards can be used depending on student experience.  Each should be responsible for 2-3 cards.  Students can be teamed; i.e. higher proficiency levels helping beginners.
    2. Students tour the classroom to review each other's work and practice pronouncing vocabulary words.  This also is a good check in case errors have been made.
    3. Students create a diagram of the classroom "as is" using Kid Pix Deluxe 3.  Students try to produce a diagram showing furniture, existing windows, doors, walls etc.
    4. Diagrams are printed and displayed.  Students discuss and compare for accuracy.
    5. Students create an original design of improvement for the classroom.
    6. Students then compare their first diagram with their improvement design.  They discuss with the group how their diagrams changed and why they made the changes.  Students will select the best classroom plan, and make recommendations to the teacher.
    7. All diagrams are displayed.
    Assessment
    1. Teacher will evaluate students' ability to verbally describe their diagrams and explain improvements with attention to directionality.
    2. Students evaluate the new classroom desgn by completing the following statement:  I like the new design because                                                                                                  .
Physical expressions and gestures, as well as verbal and written comments are the basis for evaluation.
