Brief Description
This lesson helps students
practice reading, writing, and performing note and rest duration, while
practicing using the Internet to find pre-bookmarked sites, scrolling through
the sites, and printing out forms.

to access the Internet, click on a pre-bookmarked site, and follow directions

Materials

Computer Lab, pre-bookmarked address
site, pre-printed worksheets, classroom instruments, printe out instruction
for each center, class litst with pre-assigned groups, pre-printed refection
paper.
Accommodations for Special Needs
ESL students will be assigned
in the same group with student translators. Special Education Students
will be grouped with student tutors.
Procedures
This lesson will be taught
over two forty-minute class times. My class size is rather large
so it is necessary to have duplicate centers. Students will be assigned
to six different groups approximately five students in each group.
There will be two of each center for a total of six centers. Students
will rotate to each center in ten-minute intervals.
COMPUTER CENTER: Students
will work together as a team on the computer. Assign each student
a job; keyboard operator, timekeeper, direction reader, and two students
writing the answers.
WRITING PRACTICE CENTER:
All students will practice writing the music note and rest symbols and
fills out a worksheet that compare them to fractions or money. (depending
on the classroom math learning level). As teacher you will need to
communicate with the classroom teacher and find out what objectives students
are working on in the math class.
PERFORMANCE CENTER:
Students will read note and rest symbols from a written piece of music
and perform them on unpitched percussion piece and perform the piece as
a group for the class. The performances will be video taped.
The class will rate the performance using a student-generated rubric.
Assessment
Worksheets from the computer
center and the writing practice center will be turned in for grades.
The last ten minutes of the second class students will fill out a reflection
paper asking the questions; “What did you learn in music today?”
“How do you think you can apply the information you learned today to your
daily life?”
