Brief Description
This Internet based lesson
is designed to teach intermediate students about Internet safety and how
to protect themselves when using the Internet.

Objectives
Academic
Students will write a paragraph
describing what they learned about Internet safety.

what is appropriate and safe behavior when using the Internet.
Students will evaluate different
situations regarding their relative safety/legality.
Pre-Requisite Technology Skills
Students need to be able to
navigate a web page in frames.
Materials
Computer or computers with
Internet access.
Netscape Communicator or other
Internet browser.
Microsoft Word
Accommodations for Special
Needs
For special education students,
students will be able to have their peers or the teacher help read the
web pages. Work will be reduced as appropriate.
For second language learners,
peer reading will be available. Work will be reduced as appropriate.
Procedures

Prior to conducting the online
lesson, discuss with the students the importance of Internet safety and
what it means. Do they know what safe and legal behaviors are?
Do they have rules at home about using the Internet? Why do they
need to know about Internet safety?

Using computers with Internet

Students will complete the online
lesson, including the summary paragraph and worksheet (available online).
The worksheet is a set of 10 true or false scenarios for the students to
evaluate.

After the lesson, discuss with
the students their responses and paragraphs. How will their behaviors
change? What have they learned from this project? How will
they share this with their families??????
Assessment
Students will be assessed
based on their paragraphs and worksheets.
Paragraphs will be assessed
based on content and conventions. Content should include:

What you will do if someone asks
you for personal information.

What you will do if you see something
that you don't like or makes you uncomfortable.

What you will do if someone asks
you to do something you think might hurt you or other people or that might
be illegal.

Why knowing this information is
important to you.
Worksheets will be assessed based
on the percentage correct.
