Comparison of World Religions
Students research a world
religion that is assigned to them randomly using the Internet and other
sources. Upon completion of their research, presentations are made to the
class, informing the class about their topic. Each student also writes
an essay and presents a formal speech comparing the beliefs and origins
of the assigned religion with their own religious or philosophical beliefs.
Meets Arizona State Technology Standard 1.
All
Quiet on the Western Front and World War I Art and Poetry
After reading All Quiet
on the Western Front students search the web for WWI art and poetry that
could represent scenes from the book and create a multimedia presentation
for the class. Meets Arizona State Technology Standards 1, 3, 4,
and 5.
Analyzing
Political Cartoons
Students view political
cartoons on the Internet and interpret the opinions expressed to develop
a deeper understanding of current events. Meets Arizona State Technology
Standard 1.
Being
an Informed Voter
Students, in groups of four,
spend 15 minutes at a separate station in the classroom ( Internet, Television,
and Articles). Each student fills out an individual record sheet that highlights
each candidate's stance on the issues they have chosen. A class election
is held and students discuss the process. Meets Arizona State Technology
Standard 1.
Bureaucracy
Overload
Students explore with the
fourteen executive departments of the President's Cabinet with help from
the Internet. Meets Arizona State Technology Standard 1.
"I
Declare, I believe this document May Flower!"
Students apply ideas of
self-government as expressed in America's founding documents by working
in groups to re-write a document and give a presentation analyzing it.
Meets Arizona State Technology Standards 1, 3, 4, and 5.
'Round
the World in 80 Minutes
Students use travel planning
software on the Internet to plan a trip around the world. Meets Arizona
State Technology Standard 1.
"When
Disasters Strike"
Students research a specific
natural disaster, focusing on both the cause(s) and effect (to the physical
environment, as well as the human population) of that particular event.
Students then work in cooperative groups to prepare a 15-20 minute "newscast"
(video presentation) analyzing the particular natural disaster with which
they have chosen to work. Meets Arizona State Technology Standards
3 and 4.
