All About Dolphins
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
In this project students will be writing a research report on dolphins.
They will begin by looking at pictures, then using a KWL chart to get started.
Students will use the All about Dolphins website to develop questions and
research answers. Using this information, students will then write
their report on ocean stationary. When finished they may use the
rubric provided to rate their own writing. Meets Arizona State Technology
Standards 1 and 5.
Animal Muddle Launch Page
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
In this project students will go to Little Foxy’s Activity Center and
listen to a poem about mixed up animals. Then by follow the detailed instructions
students will use a graphic organizer to begin the process of writing a
friendly story about a muddled up animal of their choice. Upon completion
of the activity students will evaluate their story using the rubric provided.
Meets Arizona State Technology Standard 1.
Artistic
Acrostics
Students use adjectives
to write a poem about themselves. Then, they type it into a word
processing program and create an illustration. Meets Arizona State
Technology Standards 1 and 3.
At
Home in the Tropical Rainforest
Students work cooperatively
to research a rainforest animal and create a presentation. Meets
Arizona State Technology Standards 1, 3, 4, and 5.
Building Background Knowledge-The
Irish Immigrants
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
In this lesson the idea of primary and non-primary sources will be
introduced to second graders. The first PowerPoint presentation focuses
on Abraham Lincoln and includes both types of sources. The purpose of this
section is for the students to practice differentiating between the two
types of sources. In the second section of the lesson students will see
a second PowerPoint in which they will view pictures, line drawings, and
movie clips about the lives of Irish immigrants before they immigrate to
America. The purpose of this lesson is to build background knowledge about
the living conditions of the immigrants in Ireland and their underlying
reasons for immigrating. Meets Arizona State Technology Standards 2, 3,
5 and 6.
Communities
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
Prior to this lesson, students
will have been learning about different types of communities. They
will be taking the information they have learned and webbing their ideas
on Kidspiration. They will then be creating a PowerPoint presentation.
It will be viewed by those in the class. This lesson requires three-four
45-minute sessions. Meets Arizona State Technology Standard 3.
Community
Map
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
Prior to this lesson, students
will have been learning about maps and map reading skills. In this
lesson, students will be creating a map of their community for someone
who is visiting from out of town. This lesson will take 2 forty-five
minute lessons. Meets Arizona State Technology Standard 6.
Computer Basics-Just the Beginning
Creating a Title Page using Student Writing Center
An Amphi TLCF Lesson
Students will learn some computer basics use by creating a title page
for a story or report. While creating the title page
using Student Writing Center, the students will learn proper posture,
various parts of a computer, and how to use educational software to create
a finished product. Meets Arizona State Technology Standard 1.
Creating
a Classroom Newsletter
An Amphi TLCF Lesson
Students will create a classroom
newsletter using original, creative stories as well factual, research based
articles. Meets Arizona State Technology Standard 1.
Creatures of the Night
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
This lesson is a fun and exciting way for second and third graders
who are beginning to learn the basics of research. Utilizing students'
prior and newly acquired knowledge about bats, students and teachers can
use this launch page lesson to learn and extend research and writing
skills. The website has a lot of kid-friendly information and pictures
for students of all ages to use in research. Students have to
read for information, write and illustrate non-fiction information about
bats to make a lift-the-flap book. This lesson meets Arizona State
Technology Standards 3 and 5.
Danger on the Internet
An Amphi TLCF Lesson
With technology being such a big part of our lives, students need to
realize that "Stranger Danger" lurks. This lesson is designed to
help children learn how to be safe as they use the Internet. Meets
Arizona State Technology Standard 2.
Dinosaur Cinquains
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
In this activity students will use the factual research they have done
on a specific dinosaur to create a descriptive cinquain about that dinosaur.
This research will have been completed over a period of three weeks as
homework with the assistance of an adult. The completed cinquain will then
be published on the website http://pbskids.org/arthur/games/poetry/
(Fern’s poetry center). Meets Arizona State Technology Standards
3 and 4.
Dr.
Seuss Web Search
Students search various
web sites to answer questions about Dr. Seuss. Meets Arizona State
Technology Standards 1 and 5.
Email Using Cox Education Network
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
Students will be learning how to properly address, attach a file, and
send an email using Cox Education Network. This will take two 45-minute
class periods. Meets Arizona State Technology Standard 4.
Endangered
Animals Collaborative Reports
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
In this lesson 2nd graders
will gather information about an endangered species, the Panda. After making
a research web as a class, the class will work together to organize and
write a research report about Pandas. This research report will then be
posted on the website Project: TESAN – The Endangered Species and Nature,
a collaborative project that posts and collects student work about endangered
species from all over the world. The address is http://www.tesan.vuurwerk.nl/.
This lesson is a modeling lesson intended to prepare students to write
their own individual research reports. Meets Arizona State Technology
Standards 1, 2, 4 and 5.
Fun Frog Facts
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
In this lesson from www.readwritethink.org
students test their knowledge about frogs. First they print a chart with
statements about frogs. Students read the statements and decide if they
think they are true or false. Then students got to The Somewhat Amazing
World of Frogs website to check their answers. Using the information
learned from the site they will fill out and print their own chart with
true and false frog facts.
Getting Along at Computers
An Amphi TLCF Lesson
In this lesson, students will discuss what appropriate behaviors are
needed to be ”good” computer users. They will then generate a chart of
computer expectations, which can then be hung in the classroom - using
Word. The chart will then be shared & discussed with their parents
at either a Net Buddy Nite or in a handout at home with their parent (if
they are unable to attend a Net Buddy Nite). Meets Arizona State
Technology Standard 2.
In the Beginning with Word
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
Microsoft Word is a basic computer program that many schools use.
It is the program that most of my students use as well. It is important
for the students to understand how the program works if they are to use
the program to their advantage – even in the beginning stages. Students
will create a web for their story using the Draw tools in Microsoft Word.
After writing a story, students will create a title page using Microsoft
Word. Meets Arizona State Technology Standard 1.

Brett Books
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
Have you ever wanted to have your students connect and communicate
with a well-known author of children's books? This launch page, through
this Scholastic website, will provide your students with the opportunity
to do just that. Your students can meet Jan Brett on-line and review
one of her many books. Then, your students will have the opportunity
to submit their own personal book review and possibly have it published
on the Author's site with Scholastic.

Students engage in activity
that helps them find special keys and identify their purpose. Meets

Letter
to the President
Students find out more about
the president by exploring the White House web site. Then, they use
word processing software to write a letter to the president that they can
either email or send in the mail. Meets Arizona State Technology
Standards 1, 3, 4, and 5.
Life in the White House
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
Students will use the White House website to use primary source photographs
to compare and contrast past and present photos of life in the White House.

Mapping the Classroom
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
Creating maps and labeling them is one of the state standards for Geography
in the Primary grades. During the study of our community, a problem
arose in the classroom. We needed to arrange the classroom so that
we had the most available room for not only center activities, but for
sitting together for community and reading time. The students were
asked to use the some of the draw tools on Microsoft Office and recreate
our classroom. They were asked to title their “map,” and create a
compass rose using cardinal directions. Meets Arizona State Technology
Standards 1 and 6.
Max's Math Adventure
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
In this lesson students will combine their reading and math skills.
They will read three poems from Max's Math Adventure website. The information
from each poem will be used to answer a math problem. There is a poem dealing
with money, addition and multiplication. After reading the poems students
will have a chance to write and print their own math poem. Meets Arizona
State Technology Standard 1.
Money
Money Money
Students practice their
coin identification skills by searching the Internet to find out which
president is on each coin. Students use Kid Pix to show a different way
to make the same amount of money. Meets Arizona State Technology Standards
1, 3, and 5.
Musical Stories

Did you know that music tells a story? Students will be listening
to different pieces of music and learning the stories that go with them.
They will then listen to a new piece of music and use Kid Pix to draw a
picture of their interpretation of the new piece of music. Meets

Place in Space
An Amphi TLCF Lesson
Students will practice their
map reading and understanding skills by constructing a map of Arizona and
completed various tasks with it. Meets Arizona State Technology Standard
5.
Our School is Special

The students will be presented with the problem of collecting data
and creating a brochure to advertise our school to new
enrolling students and their parents. They will use a digital camera
to collect pictures to transfer to their pamphlet. Meets Arizona State

Poetry Writing and Fern's Poetry
Club
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
The students will utilize a PBS related website entitled Fern’s Poetry
Club to publish a student-authored poem on an Internet to not only meet
the Arizona Language Arts and Writing Standards (2, 3,4, and 5) and also
the Arizona Technology Standards for Second Grade (1T-F1). Additionally,
the students will learn that the Internet can be a valuable resource tool

The Real Time Data site that I plan to use is called “More Real
Time Data Projects.” In the link called, The Rainforest Connection,
students will be able to browse actual photographs of the rainforest, and
plant and animal life. What a terrific way to discover this incredible

Real Time Weather with 4th Grade

In this lesson 2nd grade students will learn background information
about weather and reading a thermometer. They will then use a real time
weather website on the Internet to complete a weather scavenger hunt. Their

Sequel to Peter Rabbit in the
Primary Classroom
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
In this lesson, the class of students will write a class-generated
sequel to a story featuring Peter Rabbit (or a bunny theme in a picture
book). This will be done with the teacher doing shared/interactive
writing with the class. The teacher will create a follow-up activity
utilizing Kidspiration for the class to visit at the website called Kidspired
Tales and do the concept map created for this lesson. Meets Arizona

Students learn how volcanoes look on Earth and on other planets in
the solar system by viewing the artistic renderings online. They
will draw a volcano and paint it with the backdrop of an imaginary world.

Square
of Life
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
During our unit of study
on “Saving the Earth,” our kids will plot square meters of land in our
schoolyard and in the desert area just outside our fence. We will
record both the living and non-living things that we find. This information
will be submitted via e-mail to a project database. This database
is accessible to all members that have joined the project. We will
compare and contrast our information with other classes. Each group will
compose a report or presentation that we will e-mail to the project and
it will be posted to the project web site. We will find a “buddy class”
online to compare and share our information with as well. Meets Arizona
State Technology Standard 4.
Square
of Life
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
In this project students
will plot square meters in their schoolyards and record the living and
non-living things that are found. They will submit this information to
the project database, this will allow viewing via the Internet. Students
will then compare and contrast their information with that submitted by
other classes from around the world and prepare a brief report or presentation
that will be posted to the project web site. Meets Arizona State Technology

Study
of Civil Rights for the Primary Classroom

Show your students, first
or second graders, the issues of equality and rights of people through
an online version of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and the highlights

Snow Maiden
Students read an on-line
fairy tale and rewrite the ending. Their story endings can be posted on
the site. Students will create their own snow person using a drawing

Students create a multimedia

Weathering the Weather
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
Our present unit of study is the weather. Through class discussions,
I found that many of my students are not aware of the differences in weather
around the world or even in the United States. Through this activity
students will investigate weather phenomenon both locally as well as in
countries around the world. This will also heighten student awareness
of the use of maps and the effect of the weather on different environments.

What Can Bugs Do?

What better way to learn about verbs then to watch bugs at play? In
this lesson, students will read an on-line story about different bugs just
doing what they do best. The student plots on an organizer the activities
within the story. This lesson even offers an extension. Great for second

Students will read story
and then write a similar one that relates to their school year. They will
use computer literacy skills to write, edit, and publish their own book.

Wonderful World of Weather
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
Students will use a website to track and observe the weather of other
states or countries where they have friends or relatives living. This meets
Arizona Science, Social Studies and Technology Standards. The students
will then use the information that they have gathered to compare and contrast
the weather in the state they live in to the weather of another state.

Invited!!!
An Amphi Ed Tech Lesson
The frozen turkeys have
been purchased. The decorations are underway. We are learning
that living in a community is more than having an address within the city
limits. The plan is to have a Thanksgiving Pot Luck. Parents
will be invited to celebrate Thanksgiving. They must bring a dish
to share. The excitement is stirring – the invitations need to be
