Telephone Tricks

A Sincere Thank You
from Tom Gill

As most of you may know, our District voicemail system had a major failure this past January. This failure definitely caused much inconvenience for users and troubleshooters alike.  All data – which includes voice mailboxes, automated attendants, homework hotlines, etc.—had to be rebuilt from “scratch”.  Obviously, this was monumental task and ranked pretty high on the technology “bummer” scale.  So through several weeks of troubleshooting and rebuilding, which consisted of a lot of head-scratching, calloused fingers (from programming), cauliflower ear (from long phone conversations with tech support engineers), caffeine highs/lows,  and sleep deprivation, the District voicemail should be— for the most part— back to its full glory.
This experience of dealing with a major system failure of this magnitude could have been much more stressful if I were not surrounded by such caring and talented people. Therefore, my sincere commendation goes to my Technology colleagues and the respective outside vendors who gave their undaunting support in the effort to expeditiously get the voicemail system back on line.  But, most importantly, I would like to sincerely thank everyone in the District for their patience and understanding during our challenging process of fixing and rebuilding the voicemail system. It makes me feel extremely thankful to be working with such a great collection of people.
