Route 21: 21st Century Skills Resources
By Peggy Steffens

The Partnership for 21st Century Skills has developed Route 21 which provides 21st century skills–related resources. You can access the site at http://www.21stcenturyskills.org/route21/. There are many resources at Route 21 and the Partnership plans to continue to add more in the future.  Registered users can also contribute resources that will be reviewed.  Currently, you can go to Route 21 Snapshots and see examples of how 21st century skills are being taught and learned in classrooms today.   The examples include video clips from Edutopia and written explanations of what the teachers and students are doing in the classroom.

The site describes each of the 21st century skills and you can learn what student outcomes are essential for success in the 21st century. You can also learn more about the educational basis for these skills by reading white e-papers associated with each subject.  For example, they have a wonderful e-paper on the necessity for assessing 21st century learning and the differences in using formative and summative assessments to assess 21st century learning.  You can view resources by support system, skill or knowledge.  I would recommend creating a free account so you can accumulate your favorite resources and click on Take a Tour to learn about all of the resources on the Route 21 site.
